Northampton National School Fun Bingo Main Fundraiser

Northampton National School are running their annual Fun Bingo fundraiser on Saturday the 12th of October in Kinvara Community Centre for all you Bingo lovers out there!    Doors open at 7.30pm, starts at 7.45pm.   Tickets 10 euros which can be brought at the door for adults, Kids are 5 euros…Great night for all the family with Great prizes and fun to be had! All are so welcome for what promises to be another great social night. Check out further details on various communities Facebook pages including the KCC.

 Want to learn more about pruning and getting your plants and trees ready for winter ?  And also help the Tidy Towns work on Community areas with shrubs, trees and beds to get them ready for 2020 !     If so, we would love to see you for a short tips session on ‘how best to prune’ on Saturday the 19th of October from 11 – 1pm followed by some work on focus areas around village where you can apply what you learned.  May also work on composting and bulb planting if sufficient help and time permitting. Please come prepared weather wise.  Can you also please bring your own pruning/clipper handtools/spades and garden shears. Do not worry if you do not have any, we will have some equipment available on day.    Light refreshments will also be served.   We would love to see you there !   Meet you in the Memorial garden across from the Community Centre for the Pruning skills tips short workshop at 11am on Saturday 19th. 

The Burren Winterage Weekend 2019 Oct 24^th – Oct 27^th, the Burren Winterage, the ancient and unique practice of winter grazing in the Burren, is the inspiration for the Burren Winterage Weekend festival, due to take place this year between Oct 24^th and 27^th, in the beautiful Burren region. Focusing this year on the theme of Building a healthy future for people, food and nature, the programme promises a rich variety of events such as the Burren Winterage School, book readings, film screenings, a children’s art workshop, the national Farming for Nature Awards and the much-loved community Cattle Drive. A choice of guided walks on Saturday 26^th of October include an early Herdsman’s Walk led by Patrick McCormack, who is sure to tell fascinating stories about farming and the Burren. On Saturday afternoon, environmentalist Gordon D’Arcy will lead a children’s art and nature workshop on the theme of ‘Wildlife on the Farm’. On Sunday, the 27^th of October, members of the public will be invited to join the Burren Winterage Cattle Drive, a long uphill walk with a Burren farming family as they walk, from the village of Carron, their cattle to the winter pastures. Burren Lowlands CLG, whose aim is to make the region of south Galway and north Clare a better place to live, work and visit, is conducting a study of all the communities within the area to find out more about what is happening in each. The results of study will inform a LEADER funding application for the region. Information on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of each will be gathered. Kinvara Community Council’s monthly meetings take place the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be our AGM and is taking place on Wednesday 18^th September at 8pm in Kinvara Community Centre. The Kinvara Community Council are looking for new members of all ages to get involved and to sit on the board and help promote the objectives of the Kinvara Community Council to fill the various position on the board i.e. Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer etc.

The AGM will be followed by our monthly meeting We encourage all members of the community to attend these meetings. All sub groups who are affiliated to Kinvara Community Council must send a representative to every KCC meeting in order to maintain their benefits. Any items for inclusion on the agenda must be emailed in before Friday 13^th September.

KAVA NEWS: Friday 6th September sees the launch of the KAVA Members Portrait Exhibition at The Courthouse, continues until Sunday 15th September (more details will be available at kava.ie and on the KAVA Facebook page)

The History of Tango by ‘Duo Cantolegno’. Guitarist Matthias Greenslade and violinist Julia von Allwörden will be holding a concert at The Courthouse in Kinvara on Thursday, 19th September at 8pm. The talented duo are graduates of Hamburg, Hanover and Berlin Colleges of music and have been the recipients of many awards and scholarships. The programme for the evening will include pieces by Argentinian composers Astor Piazzolla and Coco Nelegatti, as well as the duo’s  own compositions (more info will be available at kava.ie)

Friday 20th September is Culture Night and KAVA are delighted to host a performance of Dr Frankenfaust by Your Man’s Puppets, 8pm at The Courthouse. This is a Free Event, sponsored by Culture Night, but booking is recommended (not suitable for young children). Seats can be reserved at culturenight.ie or go to https://drfrankatkava.eventbrite.ie and click Register to secure your seat.

Make Way Day: is a national initiative by The DFI, (Disability Federation of Ireland) It takes place on September 26^th and is about raising awareness and educating people of the issues wheelchair users, parents with buggies etc. and really anyone with mobility issues in our towns. It is about cars parked on footpaths, bins left out blocking the way, restaurant signs causing obstruction etc. We will be having a launch and inviting people to come walk the town with us to see some of the issues in our town. KINVARA ALIVE – SafeTALK free training. Kinvara alive is offering another two FREE SafeTALK (Tell, Ask, Listen, Keep Safe) training in Kinvara.

The dates are Monday the 16th of September at 10am and Tuesday the 15th of October at 7pm, venue for both dates is the parish meeting room at St. Joseph’s church. To book one of the training sessions, spaces are limited, please either go to our Facebook page or call into Clare in the Market Square surgery or go to bookwhen.com/srotraininggmr and select one of the Kinvara SafeTALK training sessions.
