The Kinvara Plastic-Free-Week Challenge: the talk of the town!

The community of Kinvara did themselves proud this week during the Plastic-Free-Week Challenge, with multiple appearances on national television, national and local radio, and newspapers. The media were impressed by the extent of cross community engagement.

On Monday, RTE news with Pat McGrath, RTE Nuacht and TG4 filmed the kick off of the campaign in the local businesses and at the pier with a request to return at the end of the week to see how we got on.

RTE News with Teresa Mannion returned on Friday, a glorious morning, where an Artists’ installation of trolleys full of plastic awaited them on the pier. Carrying their camera up to The Farmers’ Market they filmed more of the story including the Foróige/Seamount TY students with their Keep-Cups for take-away coffees who explained that they sold out in a few hours and had to order more.

They then filmed a local householder who explained the difficulties of the challenge. The overall conclusion was that we needed action from the top down in the form of plastic bans and levies. Well done, Kinvara!
