Kinvara support for Palestine: Kinvara is famous for being the first town in Ireland in which all businesses agreed to a boycott on Israeli products. It was first implemented in 2014, during Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and it has been renewed this November, in response to the current onslaught. On Monday 6th November two Palestinian students from UCG spoke to a huge gathering in Fox’s, and ideas were circulated about how Kinvara people could get involved. There have been meetings each Monday since then. At the time of writing, we are organising a vigil on the quay and have other ideas in the pipeline. If anyone would like to join the WhatsApp group and get updates about future events in Kinvara and Galway, please contact Trish 087 697 2226 or Kate 087 7790853

Kinvara Community Council’s: monthly meetings take place the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is taking place on Wednesday 15th November at 8pm in Kinvara Community Centre. We encourage all members of the community to attend these meetings where discussion and debates on any items put forward on the agenda are always welcome. All sub groups who are affiliated to Kinvara Community Council must send a representative to every KCC meeting in order to maintain their benefits. Any items for inclusion on the agenda must be emailed in by Monday 13th November and you must be there to present your item.

safeTALK with KINVARA ALIVE is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 16th, at 7pm at the Courthouse in Kinvara. Last day for registering a space is the 8th of November. WHAT IS safeTALK? It is a 3½ hour, internationally recognised, training program that empowers you to identify and engage with individuals struggling with thoughts of suicide. Participants (over the age of 18 yrs.) will: •Grasp the significance of suicide alertness. •Gain clear, actionable information to support those at risk. •Master the TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen, and Keep safe) steps. •Acquire local community resources knowledge. The four basic steps of TALK are called ‘suicide alertness skills’ and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help save lives and reduce suicide risk in their community. St Coman’s Church and Graveyard.  A large portion of St. Coman’s graveyard has been claimed by private individuals and is currently ‘owned’ by these people.  (See landdirect.ie Folio GY123313).  Kinvara Heritage Group (KHG) is working hard to rectify this matter, and is very grateful for the continued support from the community. Galway County Council has confirmed they are also actively working on this, and has provided KHG with the latest steps they have taken to bring things to a resolution. KHG will continue to raise awareness of this situation until the section of the graveyard is returned to the people of Kinvara.  Kinvara Heritage Group can be contacted on stcomanschurch@gmail.com.

Kinvara Table Tennis: There has been an active table tennis group playing in Kinvara for about fifteen years now and we are looking for new members to join the group. We play on Thursday evenings from 8.30pm to 9.30pm in the School Sports Hall at the back of St. Joseph’s National School in Kinvara. (Entrance via back of the carpark beside the school) Cost €5 per play. All levels are welcome. We provide the bats and balls, and three tables, and we make sure everyone gets a few games. It’s great for some light exercise, stimulating conversation, and some local gossip! Contact 087 418 6074 if you need any more information or just turn up on the night.
