  • Merriman Hotel: The Kinvara Community Council remains steadfast in its call for the cancellation of the International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) contract for the Merriman Hotel, and for the property to be restored to its intended function as a commercial tourism facility. Despite continued engagement, our Oireachtas representatives have not succeeded in persuading the Government to uphold its stated policy of avoiding contracts involving the sole hotel in a village. 3 June 2025
  • Dunguaire Castle: The Kinvara Community Council has been informed by local councilors that Dunguaire Castle will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Following an infrastructure assessment carried out by Galway County Council, it has been determined that significant investment is required to restore the castle to a safe and acceptable standard for public access. At present, Galway County Council has indicated that it does not have the necessary financial resources to undertake the required works. Discussions are currently underway with central Government to explore potential funding options. As of now, no timeline has been provided for when a decision will be made, when restoration work might begin, or when the castle could reopen to the public. The Community Council will continue to monitor the situation and share updates as new information becomes available. 3 June 2025
