Kinvara Heritage Group is pleased to report that the boundary of Folio number GY123313F has now been updated, and a large section of St. Coman’s graveyard has been released from private ownership. This treasured church and graveyard can now remain, fully intact, at the heart of Kinvara for generations to come.

The Group would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the huge support they received from the community of Kinvara – both at home and abroad. They really appreciate the efforts of everyone who took the time and trouble to support their efforts, without which they could not have brought the matter to such a successful conclusion.

The subsequent associated monitoring and service charges must be paid by the participant. The equipment will be funded by Pobal and made available through the Kinvara Community Alert voluntary and not-for-profit organisation registered with Pobal under the SAS. St Coman’s Church and Graveyard: St Coman’s Church and Graveyard. A large portion of St. Coman’s graveyard has been claimed by private individuals and is currently ‘owned’ by these people.  (Visit www.landdirect.ie and search for Folio number GY123313F for details). Kinvara Heritage Group (KHG) is working to rectify this matter, and is very grateful for the huge community support. Galway County Council are actively working to bring this matter to a resolution. KHG will continue to raise awareness of this situation until the section of the graveyard is returned to the people of Kinvara. Kinvara Heritage Group can be contacted on stcomanschurch@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you at our stall in the Christmas Fair! On the weekend of December 9th and 10th.

Kinvara Community Defibrillator Project: We recently secured an equipment purchase grant from HSE/National Lottery and were awarded €3,440. This grant will be used with our current funds for a planned defibrillator (AED) equipment replacement program. The current fleet of 5 AEDs are all older than their recommended lifetime of 10 years. Obtaining replacement parts has also become increasingly difficult and expensive. We’ve selected a new AED model and have started an upgrade program, which we will progress as funds allow. Each new AED costs around €1,300. We’re also examining the possibility of installing AEDs and cabinets at new locations to improve coverage, again as funds allow. Thanks to Joe Byrne for his help with the grant application and as always, thanks to the community for support and fundraising.
