Every year we hold our AGM/Party to reflect on the year’s activities and look to the future. It also provides the opportunity for a bit of a celebration. We will be holding this year’s AGM/Party in Tully’s Back Room on Wednesday October 24th kicking off at 8.30. After the business of the meeting (which shouldn’t take too long) there will be drinks, nibbles and music. Not only do we look forward to seeing you but also hearing your suggestions for future gigs. KAVA PRESENTS FILM NIGHT ‘LIVING COLOUR’

‘Living Colour’ is a film about an abstract watercolour painter who takes three and a half minutes to climb into a van, a chatterbox stone carver with the shakes, a woman who colours her dreams, a precision ink-drawer who stares into fires, a diminutive sage who makes politically satirical animations and the motley collective of other artists with special needs with whom they share a studio. It is a charming, moving and hilarious reflection on the deeply human need to make art.  This 82-minute observational documentary film explores the world of an unusual artists’ collective in Callan, Co. Kilkenny, a studio which focuses on the artists’ abilities instead of their special needs. As it takes us farther into their unique world, this extraordinary film builds into an often hilarious and intimate portrayal of a medley of charming and vibrant characters. Living Colour is a rich and rewarding cinema experience and is, in itself, a celebration of what it is to be human.  Come along to the Courthouse, Kinvara on WEDNESDAY, 17TH OCTOBER AT 8 P.M. as part of Social Inclusion week.

‘FINE ART – FINE FOOD’

ART EXHIBITION IN THE MERRIMAN DINING ROOM

The second of the ‘Fine Art Fine Food’ exhibitions is now open to viewers.  There are 36 works on show from 18 different artists. The exhibition is the result of an exciting collaboration between Kinvara Area Visual Arts (KAVA) and The Merriman Hotel in Kinvara. The Merriman is committed to supporting arts and culture in an area with a thriving and ever-expanding artistic community. With a view to this they have given over the walls of the hotel dining room to KAVA artists, to hold exhibitions there on an ongoing basis. The hotel is a fitting venue for such an enterprise. An iconic building, being the largest thatched roof structure in Ireland it was named after the famous local poet Brian Merriman, author of The Midnight Court. The ‘Quilty Room’, the dining room where the art is exhibited, is aptly named after the famous Irish artist Joseph Quilty, who made Kinvara his home.
